Friday afternoon, the beleaguered singer tweeted that she would be appearing at Saturday night at McCabe’s in Santa Monica for a “speaking engagement” on the subject of “Effects of Gay-Bashing on the L.A. Mayoral Race.”
This came as news to the club -- and not good news. “She is not welcome at McCabe’s,” said the venue’s angry concert director, Lincoln Myerson, who had just learned about Shocked’s vow -- or threat -- to show up after he got calls regarding the singer’s mysterious tweet.
On Monday, the guitar shop and concert venue joined nearly every other club on her itinerary in canceling her planned show after the singer's alleged anti-gay comments at the opening gig of the tour Sunday night in San Francisco led to mass walkouts and media furor.Michelle Shocked tour meltdown history:

Here, I reckon: Los Angeles Mission. Here's a map. (Nowhere near McCabe's. Which is a good thing.)
Update II: I think I just figured this whole thing out: Michelle Shocked is doing a performance art take on this:

I dearly hope someone Ustreams it. If I still lived in L.A., I'd get some friends together and show up in white coats.
ReplyDeleteThis girl is the trainwreck that keeps on wrecking!
Eventually I'm going to have to stop watching this trainwreck and simply give Michelle the attention she deserves which is NONE. Listening to her is no more uplifting nor informative than listening to the mad ravings of a psychopath in solitary confinement.
ReplyDeleteFollow-up thoughts: It's a pity, really, because she's such a remarkably good musician; it's too bad she has to ruin her art with all the other crap which falls out of her mouth. I can't bear listening to her many recordings anymore because all I can think about is the twisted mentality within this once-great muse. As Andrew Eaton-Lewis notes today in the comment section of Scotsman.com's opinion page, Michelle is a victim of her own religious intolerance.
DeleteI won't stop listening to her. (Not that I have in years, to be honest.) And yes, she does appear to be her own victim here. And yes, it's a pity. Not funny at all, not satisfying realy to see her tour fall apart, although she brought it on herself with provoking and vile words. If she didn't mean them - gah. Then why say them? Confusing and sad.
Deleteshe says she's coming to the Santa Cruz show tonight too!
ReplyDeleteIn fact, MS did bring her Rebel Without a Clue act to Moe's last night:
